how indore becomes the garbage free city in india
more than 1,00,000 metric tonnes of trash in india produced everyday especially in the metro citiesindore on the other hand,is setting an example with its waste management.with its waste management initiatives.
asheesh singh(IAS COMMISSIONER INDORE MUNICIPAL CORPORATION.)said that, our daily waste generation is around 1,100 tonnes.and we are not able to process it completely.that, and the waste from past 40-50 years was already there at the dumpsite so we had to address these two things.one was that we had to increase the processing to 100% so that the current waste didn't get dumped at the site, and secondly, how to clear the already dumped garbage.so for this, the first thing that we had to do was to minimize the human intervention and bring the whole process in autopilot mode.we had to switch to software-based monitoring.for door to door collection,we created a GPS control room.we have set up 19 screens where an operator sits and resolve the issues.we have to provided push-to-talk devices in the GPS control room as well as in the vehicles.
so there are two types of waste-wet waste and dry waste.with wet waste we generaly make compost and here we make methane too.for dry waste, earlier we used to do manual segregation.however, despite employing 700-800 rag pickers,100% waste segregation couldn't be done so,we opened a tender and established a mechanical plant.it segrecates the dry waste mechanically with the help of robotic machines.our plants capacity is 300 tonnes.it segregates waste into 27 categories which are then resold further.also we have, recentely established a plant that generates diesel from plastic-8 tonnes per day.with these 3-4 things,we haveincreased our processing to a 100%.along with this we started thinking about clearing the existing 13 lakh metric tonnes of waste at the dumpsite.in total,we setup 17 machines withthe help of 3 agencies.we told them that just set up the machinery and leave the operation to us.
the city has cleared 13,00,000 metric tonnes of garbage in just 6 months.the planning took 6 months we were able to clear the whole base.we have been able to reclaim around 100 acres of land,in the whole project,we have spent less than 10 crores.we will use 10 acres to build a garden and 90 acres to make the city forest.the 100 acres of reclaimed land is now being used for different purposes.we don't litter our homes or if some other family member litter our home.we clear it up.so, if we treat our city and country the same way, they we be clean as our homes.
its time other cities take inspiration from indore.
